How To Install Overboard or Orbit For Free

Many of us got really excited with the release of Orbit, produced and developed by Steven Stroughton, who has successfully developed many other apps which I have personally purchased and downloaded, from both Cydia and the app store. Orbit runs very much the same way as Expose on Mac, allowing iPhone users to quickly view and jump between different springboard pages. I have been using Orbit since it was first released and have been happy with it.

But on Friday, we saw the release of Overboard, another Expose like system, this time produced by Ryan Petrich, who has also developed many other successfull apps in the past. I thought I would give it a try and compare the two.

Up to now, Overboard seems to be out performing Orbit, it loads quicker, has support for Winterboard themes, has full customisation, has search page included, and has different ways to access it ;
eg. Home button / Springboard icon / Pinch gesture.

All that said, Orbit has also just released an update which will undoubtedly close the gap in some of these areas.

If your thinking of giving either one a try, but not sure which, then follow these instructions and try them both for free first ;
PLEASE REMEMBER TO PURCHASE AFTER TRIAL TO SHOW SUPPORT TO DEVELOPERS AND KEEP THEM PRODUCING GREAT APPS LIKE THESE!

NOTE ;
a) Your device must be jailbroken with Cydia installed
b) You must be running 3.x.x firmware

1. Open Cydia and select ;
Manage / Sources / Edit / Add / Type in and install ;
www.sinfuliphonerepo.com/

2. Now select ;
Search / Type in and install ;
Overboard
Or
Orbit
( From the Sinful Repo )

3. Your device will now respring

4. You will now have an icon on your desktop to access the Expose system, you can now view and jump between springboard pages

5. If you installed Overboard, adjust settings to suit you by selecting ;
Settings / Overboard ;
Turn on or off the different activation methods eg ;
a) Home button
b) Springboard Icon
c) Springboard pinch
Turn on or off the different visible elements eg ;
a) Dock ( Displays dock icons as well as springboard pages )
b) Search page ( Displays search page )
c) Columns ( Set the number of page columns displayed )

Thats it, now enjoy, let me know your oppinions on both and which you prefer !

  1. Overboard is actually better than Orbit. I like how Overboard can be used with the Home button and/or Pinch. Also, I like being able to specify 2 column mode, which makes it easier for me to clearly see the app icons. I know @stroughtonsmith will continue to work on Orbit and make it better, but for now Overboard has Orbit beat.
