Have you just updated to 3.1.2 firmware? Just jailbroken your device? Well some jailbreak tools do not register the afc2 service which is needed to access the root file system via usb on your device, this can cause problems when using popular tools like iphonebrowser or ifunbox.This link will take you to a set of step by step instructions, in short it requires you to SSH into your device via wifi.
