Problems In The Jailbreak Community

Come On Geohot

As you probably know Geohot posted a blog earlier stating he was going to release a jailbreak that would work on all devices, within the next 2 days, great for all us guys but what about the chronic dev team? How would they react? They too are also working on a jailbreak tool using the same exploit as Geohot but are still approx 2 to 3 weeks away from a finished product, you guessed it, they arent happy! Did both sides work out the exploit independantly? Or is one side trying to take credit for something the other discovered? We may never really know, but the chronic dev team released the exploit to the world, this can only be bad news for the jailbreak community, Apple will now very quickly release an update to fix this exploit, who knows it might stop all future firmware from being jailbreakable, not a good thing.

Understandingly Geohot was very annoyed and immediately posted a blog saying he was no longer going to release his jailbreak.

The good news though, is after a bit of banter with the dev team on twitter, hes had a change of heart and is now going to go ahead with the release. This is his latest blog post:

Minor setback today, when Chronic revealed the exploit that this will use. For apparently no purpose except to save face in front of their donators. Future reference, never donate until you have a product in hand and working. Look, as much as I fight with the dev team, they always have the community's interests at heart, maybe even more so than me. But chronic just stomped all over what the community wants. Who can actually do something with the info they released? Well, you know, Apple.

Fantastic, 2 days and counting to release ( Fingers crossed)

Show him some support and leave a positive comment on his blog, we need guys like him in the hackers community!
